Today is national s’mores day! There’s something about the combination of graham cracker, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow that perfectly completes any summer night around a fire. But s’mores become a bit more difficult when you’re gluten free. I’ve tried several different brands of gluten free graham crackers, and I’ve narrowed down a few favorites.
For S’mores, I prefer the Pamela’s brand. The biggest difficulty I’ve had is finding one that’s sturdy enough. GF graham crackers tend to be a bit crumbly. Kinnikinnick is my 2nd favorite, they make a very good and sturdy graham cracker, but it’s a bit thicker than Pamela’s and can overpower the taste of the marshmallow and chocolate. The 3rd brand I use is Schar, but I don’t usually use them for s’mores. They tend to break and crumble much too easily to hold up to it. But they are my go to as ingredients in my baking, particularly my s’mores cookies. They crush up nicely and give the perfect graham cracker flavor to the cookie.
I hope this helps you enjoy some gluten free s’mores this summer! If you don’t have a fire pit or want another option to enjoy the flavor or s’mores, try my S’mores Cookies. Chewy gluten free cookies flavored with graham crackers and filled with pieces of milk chocolate, then topped with toasted marshmallows and more chocolate for real s’mores flavor.
